The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey showed little change in national openings, hires, quits, and layoffs during June.

CONFIRMED FACTS The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 7.4 million job openings in June 2026, little changed from May, with a 4.4 percent job-openings rate. BLS reported 5.3 million hires and a 3.4 percent hires rate in June. Total separations were 5.4 million, with a 3.4 percent rate. Quits were 3.2 million and layoffs and discharges were 1.8 million. The release reported openings increased in transportation, warehousing, and utilities and in federal government, while openings decreased in wholesale trade, nondurable-goods manufacturing, and mining and logging. ANALYSIS JOLTS is a labor-flows report: openings are measured on the last business day of a month, while hires and separations cover the full month. The national readings support BLS’s description of little change in June; they do not substitute for a payroll-employment report. UNKNOWNS AND LIMITS The release does not determine the future direction of payrolls, unemployment, wage growth, inflation, interest rates, or any market. Industry movements in a single release do not establish their causes or a durable sector trend. UPDATE LOG Published August 8, 2026 after direct review of BLS’s June 2026 JOLTS release and public data API documentation.
