Treasury Fiscal Data’s Monthly Treasury Statement reported $334.0 billion in receipts and $766.3 billion in outlays for July 2026, producing a $432.3 billion monthly deficit.

CONFIRMED FACTS The U.S. Treasury Fiscal Data Monthly Treasury Statement (MTS) reported $334.010 billion in receipts and $766.318 billion in outlays for July 2026. The statement’s summary table reported a $432.308 billion deficit for the month; this equals outlays less receipts using the reported values. For the first 10 months of fiscal year 2026 (October 2025 through July 2026), the same MTS table reported $4.485 trillion in receipts, $6.284 trillion in outlays, and a cumulative deficit of $1.799 trillion. For July 2025, the MTS summary reported a $291.143 billion deficit. Its fiscal-year-to-date deficit through July 2025 was $1.629 trillion. The data records identify the July 2026 observation as fiscal year 2026, fiscal quarter 4. ANALYSIS The July monthly deficit was about $141.2 billion larger than the July 2025 figure, while the fiscal-year-to-date deficit through July was about $170.3 billion larger than the comparable year-earlier period. These comparisons describe Treasury’s cash-flow accounting measures: they are not measures of quarterly economic output, a forecast of the full-year deficit, or evidence of a single cause. UNKNOWNS AND LIMITS The MTS reports flows of federal receipts and outlays in millions of dollars. It does not, by itself, attribute changes to particular legislation, programs, timing shifts, tax payments, or economic conditions. Monthly readings can be affected by calendar and payment timing, and the July figure does not establish the fiscal-year result after July. Treasury notes that MTS tables include total and subtotal rows; this brief uses the published summary-table rows rather than aggregating component rows. UPDATE LOG Published August 13, 2026 after direct review of Treasury Fiscal Data’s MTS dataset and its Table 1 API records for July 2026 and July 2025.
