Bureau of Labor Statistics public data put the Producer Price Index for final demand at 156.927 in July 2026, down 0.1% from June and 4.7% above July 2025; the July observation is preliminary.

CONFIRMED FACTS The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) public-data API reported a July 2026 value of 156.927 for the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand (series WPUFD4). The June value was 157.083, so the index decreased 0.156 index point; calculated from the published levels, that is a 0.1% month-over-month decline when rounded to one decimal place. The API reported a July 2025 value of 149.898 for the same final-demand series. The July 2026 level was therefore 4.7% above the year-earlier level when calculated from the published values and rounded to one decimal place. BLS marked the June and July 2026 observations preliminary and states that all indexes are subject to monthly revisions for up to four months after original publication. For the BLS series for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services (WPSFD4), the API reported 156.563 in July and 156.607 in June. That is a 0.0% one-month decrease when calculated from the published levels and rounded to one decimal place. The July 2026 value was 4.7% above the July 2025 value of 149.597, using the same calculation and rounding convention. ANALYSIS The headline final-demand index and the specified less-foods, energy, and trade-services series both edged lower from June based on the published index levels, while each remained above its July 2025 level. These measures track producer prices rather than the consumer prices paid by households, and their monthly changes do not by themselves establish the path of consumer inflation. UNKNOWNS AND LIMITS This brief reports index levels and rate changes calculated from BLS API observations; it does not attribute the monthly movement to particular products, industries, policy actions, supply conditions, or demand. The cited July readings are preliminary and can be revised. The PPI is not the Consumer Price Index, does not measure every firm’s costs or margins, and does not forecast future inflation, household purchasing power, or Federal Reserve policy. UPDATE LOG Published August 13, 2026 after direct review of BLS public API responses for PPI final demand and final demand less foods, energy, and trade services.
