EIA: U.S. Regular Gasoline Price Averaged $4.006 per Gallon on August 10

The Energy Information Administration reported a U.S. average retail price of $4.006 per gallon for regular gasoline on August 10, down 7.3 cents from the prior week.

CONFIRMED FACTS The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a U.S. average retail price of $4.006 per gallon for regular gasoline for the week of August 10, 2026. EIA’s weekly gasoline-and-diesel page labels this series "Regular Gasoline Prices" and states that the prices include all taxes. The corresponding U.S. reading was $4.079 per gallon on August 3, 2026. The difference between the two published weekly readings is a decrease of $0.073 per gallon, or 7.3 cents. EIA’s API identifies the series as "U.S. Regular All Formulations Retail Gasoline Prices (Dollars per Gallon)," with product Regular Gasoline, process Retail Sales, and area U.S. ANALYSIS The latest weekly national average was lower than the prior week’s reading. This is a national, all-formulations regular-gasoline retail-price measure, so it provides a broad benchmark rather than the price at a particular station, in a particular state, or for every fuel grade. UNKNOWNS AND LIMITS The two published readings do not establish why the national average changed or whether it will continue to change. They do not measure a household’s fuel spending, diesel prices, wholesale gasoline prices, or inflation across the full consumer basket. Local prices can differ from the national average, and EIA can revise or update its published data.
